The front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioner(s) in the subject vehicles were installed from a suspect production lot containing pyrotechnic-type pretensioners that may deploy abnormally during a crash. An abnormal pretensioner deployment could cause metal fragments to enter the vehicle occupant compartment increasing the risk of injury. Follow the procedure outlined in this publication to replace the seat belt pretensioners. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs. Vehicles will be identified in WebDCS as requiring SC231L, SC231R, or SC231B. Our records indicate that you own or lease one of the potentially affected vehicles. What Is The Problem? The front driver-side and/or passenger-side seatbelt pretensioner(s) were installed from a suspect production lot containing pyrotechnic-type pretensioners that may deploy abnormally during a crash. An abnormal pretensioner deployment could project metal fragments into the vehicle and strike occupants, increasing the risk of injury. Kia Will Replace Left, Right or Both Seatbelt Pretensioner(s) At No Cost To You. Your authorized Kia dealer will replace the driver-side, passenger-side or both seat belt pretensioner(s). This repair will be performed at no cost to you. The estimated time required to perform the repair will be approximately one (1) to two (2) hours, depending on your dealer’s schedule.
