Kia
America, Inc. (KIA
) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Soul EV vehicles. The parking mechanism may be damaged, which can result in unintended vehicle movement when the gear shift lever is in the Park ‘P’ position and the parking brake is not applied while the vehicle is powered on.
Remedy
Dealers will update the electronic control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 22, 2023. Owners may contact Kia
customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia
’s number for this recall is SC287. This recall expands and replaces recall number 20V-389. Vehicles previously repaired under 20V-389 will need to have the new remedy completed.

dealers instructed to update the Electronic Control Unit software for the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) logic so that the EPB automatically activates if the POWER button is turned OFF when the gear shift lever is in the “P” (Park) position. Same updated EPB logic applied beginning with 2017MY Soul EV production.

What is J2534?
A single set of programming hardware consists of personal computer(PC), standard interface to a device driver and an interface hardware that connects between PC and a programmable ECU of vehicle.
The main purpose of this regulation is to program ECUs for all vehicles using a single set in the field.
