Remedy
Dealers will inspect and reinstall the side curtain air bags as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 28, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia

CURTAIN AIRBAG INSPECTION/REINSTALLATION (SC257)
This bulletin provides information to inspect both LH and RH curtain airbags and, if necessary, to reinstall the curtain airbags(s) on certain 2023MY Sportage (NQ5a) vehicles produced at Kia Georgia from January 12, 2022 (SOP) through November 17, 2022. The subject vehicles are equipped with curtain airbags that may have been assembled with a twisted condition during vehicle assembly. As a result, the curtain airbag(s) may not deploy properly in a crash sufficient to warrant such a deployment. An improper deployment of the curtain airbag(s) increases the risk of injury in a crash. Follow the procedure outlined in this publication to inspect both RH and LH curtain airbags in the affected vehicles for a twisted/folded condition and, if necessary, reinstall properly. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.
NOTICE
There is no charge to the vehicle owner for this repair. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected vehicle until it has been repaired pursuant to the procedures set forth in this bulletin.

The side curtain airbag(s) may have been assembled with a twisted condition during vehicle production. As a result, the side curtain airbag(s) may not deploy properly in a crash sufficient to warrant such a deployment.
