Engine Compartment Fire from Oil Leak
An oil leak in the presence of hot engine components can increase the risk of an engine compartment fire while driving.

Summary
Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2019-2020 K900, and 2018-2023 Stinger vehicles equipped with a 3.3-liter turbo gasoline direct injection engine. The left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly may deteriorate and leak oil.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia’s number for this recall is SC300.

Kia Corporation (Kia HQ) informs Kia North America (Kia NA) Safety Office of a report involving a 2019MY K900 in the Korean market that experienced smoke from the engine compartment potentially due to engine oil leak from left-hand (LH) turbocharger oil feed pipe & hose assembly. Kia NA Safety Office monitors field data.

Kia NA Safety Office reviews field data for vehicles equipped with the 3.3L turbo gasoline direct injection (T-GDI) engines and identifies no thermal events. Kia NA Safety Office continues to monitor issue.

January 25, 2024
Kia NA Safety Office engineer inspects Incident Vehicle at dealer. Localized melting in area surrounding driver side exhaust manifold found. Preliminary investigation results indicate cause of fire due to oil leak at LH oil feed pipe and hose assembly.
February 22, 2024
Kia HQ provides Kia NA Safety Office its analysis of collected/exemplar LH oil feed pipe and hose assemblies from both U.S. and Korean markets.
- Analysis of 5 U.S. collected parts finds no leakage; a fine surface crack is observed on 2 of the 5 parts.
- Kia HQ conducts duplication testing on exemplar parts from Korean market and identifies deterioration of hose and signs of leaking.

Kia NA Safety Office updates data analysis and no new thermal incidents except for the one previously identified. 25 unique VINs identifying oil leaking from LH oil feed pipe & hose assembly found in warranty, techline and customer care data sources (Stinger (14); K900 (11)) [dates of receipt 1/24/2018—2/7/2024].

Kia NA decides to recall certain 2018-2023MY Stinger vehicles equipped with 3.3.L T-GDI engines and all 2019-2020MY K900 vehicles equipped with 3.3L T-GDI engines. No injuries, crashes or fatalities. One (1) engine compartment fire (localized melting).

Description of the Defect : Over time, the left-hand (LH) turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly may deteriorate due to exposure to radiant heat from the exhaust manifold. Such deterioration can lead to oil leaks, which in the presence of hot exhaust components, increases the risk of an engine compartment fire while driving.

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : All owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail with
instructions to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealer. Kia dealers will replace the left-hand turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly with an improved one. Kia will reimburse owners for repair expenses already incurred pursuant to Kia’s General Reimbursement Plan filed May 10, 2022. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The remedy component is made of a different material that makes it less susceptible to deterioration.
No production change was made for the K900. The 2020MY K900 was the last model year produced for sale in the United States.
Engines with the improved part produced from 8/26/2021 were installed in Stinger vehicles produced beginning on 9/16/2021. One (1) 2023MY Stinger produced on 6/29/2022 was equipped with an engine produced before the 8/26/2021 change was made and thus included within the scope of this recall.
