Production Dates : SEP 26, 2017 – APR 13, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-534 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The printed circuit board (PCB) in the Hydraulic Clutch Actuator (HCA) may become contaminated with fluid. A fluid contaminated PCB may lead to an electrical short circuit, thereby increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire while driving. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : A fire increases the risk of injury. Description of the Cause : An electrical short circuit due to fluid contamination on the Hydraulic Clutch Actuator printed circuit board. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Illumination of the HEV warning light. K Address : Bussmatten 2 Buhl Foreign States 77815 Country : Germany Chronology : See attached document titled “2017-2022MY Niro and 2018-2022MY Niro Plug-in Hybrid Hydraulic Clutch Actuator (HCA) Chronology”. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : All owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail with instructions to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealer. Kia will instruct dealers to inspect the HCA and replace, if necessary. Kia will also install a new HCA fuse with one of a different capacity to mitigate the potential risk of fire caused by an electrical short circuit. Kia will reimburse owners for repair expenses already incurred pursuant to Kia’s General Reimbursement Plan filed May 10, 2022. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy component has a different capacity fuse. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The recall condition was not corrected in production as the recall vehicles include all 2017-2022MY Niro hybrid and 2018-2022MY Niro Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. The 2023MY Niro hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles are equipped with a different actuator and thus outside the scope of this recall. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : The dealer notification is scheduled to begin and end on September 26, 2023; and the owner notification is scheduled to begin and end on September 29, 2023.
