Summary
Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2023 Forte vehicles. Due to a manufacturing error, the front left steering knuckle may crack, which can result in a loss of steering control.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the front left steering knuckle, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 12, 2023. Owner may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia’s number for this recall is SC259.

FRONT LEFT STEERING KNUCKLE INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT (SC259)
This bulletin provides information to inspect and, if necessary, replace the front left steering knuckle on certain 2023MY Forte (BDm) vehicles produced from October 21, 2022 through November 7, 2022. The front left steering knuckle in the subject vehicles may have been cast improperly during production at the supplier. An improperly cast knuckle can fracture and may result in the loss of steering control. Loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash. Follow the procedure outlined in this publication to inspect the front left steering knuckle and, if necessary, replace it with a new one. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.
NOTICE
There is no charge to the vehicle owner for this repair. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected vehicle until it has been repaired pursuant to the procedures set forth in this bulletin.
Inspection Procedure:
1. Raise the vehicle on a lift so that the tires are not touching the ground.
2. Open the driver door and turn the steering wheel counterclockwise (left).
Note: Raise vehicle high enough to view the inside of the wheel area.
3. Inspect the left front knuckle (A) casting lot number to confirm the following condition:
- The casting lot number IS NOT 2E13 (OK). No further action is required.
- The casting lot number IS 2E13 (NG).
Proceeed to the “Replacement Procedure’ below.
Replacement Procedure:
1. Replace the front left knuckle assembly (A) by referring to “Driveshaft and Axle → Front Axle Assembly → Repair procedures” in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.
Note: Drive Lock Hub Nut must be replaced.
2. Perform wheel alignment. (Before and After alignment printout is required for claim).
3. Confirm normal vehicle steering operation.

Dealers will inspect the production lot number on the front left steering knuckle. If the knuckle is identified as being part of the affected production lot, the knuckle will be replaced with a new one.
