) is recalling certain 2022 Carnival vehicles. The remote controller assembly for the passenger-side power sliding door may malfunction, preventing the passenger-side sliding door from securely latching.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the passenger-side power sliding door release actuator’s drum and holder inside the remote controller assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2021. Owners may contact Kia
customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia

RELEASE ACTUATOR REPAIR FOR PASSENGER-SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR (SC221) | ||
This bulletin provides information to repair the passenger-side (RH) power sliding door on certain 2022MY Carnival (KA4) vehicles produced from July 28, 2021 through October 14, 2021. Certain plastic holders inside the release actuator within the passenger-side power sliding door remote controller assembly may have been manufactured out of specification. As a result, binding between the drum and holder can cause the latch to intermittently stick in the open position. If the latch becomes stuck in the open position, the passenger side power sliding door will not latch and the door can open while driving, increasing the risk of injury. Follow the procedure outlined in this publication to replace the passenger-side power sliding door release actuator’s drum and holder with new ones as a pair in the remote controller assembly. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.
NOTICE
There is no charge to the vehicle owner for this repair. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected vehicle until it has been repaired pursuant to the procedures set forth in this bulletin.
NOTICE

Release Actuator Repair Procedure:
1. Remove the rear door remote controller assembly (A) by referring to the โBody Electrical System โ Power Sliding Door System โ Rear Door Remote Controller โ Repair proceduresโ chapter in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.
2. Remove the five (5) screws (B) to detach the rear door remote controller cover and cable.
3. Remove the connector (C) and detaching hooks (D) from the cover, then turn the cover counterclockwise.
CAUTION
Be careful not to damage the cover.
4. Remove the seven (7) actuator screws to remove the cover.
- E: Three (3) 20mm screws (painted yellow for illustration purpose only).
- F: Four (4) 14mm screws.
5. Remove the middle gear (G) and replace it with the new drum and holder gear (H).
6. Securely reinstall the release actuator (I) in place.
7. Reassemble all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
Note: Replace the 13 door trim fasteners (J) with the new parts from the kit when reattaching the door trim.

America, Inc., pursuant to the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, is conducting a Safety Recall Campaign to replace the power sliding door release actuator and drum holder as a pair in the remote controller assembly on certain 2022 MY Carnival vehicles.
Q2. What vehicles are affected by the recall?
Certain 2022 MY Kia
Carnival vehicles manufactured from July 28, 2021 through October 14, 2021.
Q3. How many vehicles are affected by this recall?
Approximately 2,956 vehicles are affected by this recall.
Q4. What is the concern with the power sliding door?
Certain plastic holders inside the release actuator within the passenger-side power sliding door remote controller assembly may have been manufactured out of specification by the supplier. As a result, binding between the drum and holder can cause the latch to intermittently stick in the open position. If the latch becomes stuck in the open position, the passenger-side power sliding door will not latch and the door can open while driving, increasing the risk of injury.

will notify owners of the affected vehicles by first class mail beginning on December 16, 2021.
Q7. What should vehicle owners do when they receive the notification?
Upon receipt of the notification letter, owners are to contact their authorized Kia
dealer to arrange to have their vehicle inspected and repaired. If owners encounter this condition, they should stop the vehicle immediately and press the POWER DOOR OFF button so it is illuminated. Then, they need to close the passenger-side sliding door manually (they may need to try multiple times). When the door is properly closed, the door ajar warning will no longer be displayed in the cluster
Q8. How does the vehicle owner know if the recall condition may be occurring in their vehicle?
If the passenger-side power sliding door does not latch properly, four (4) audible alert chimes and illumination of the door-ajar warning on the instrument cluster will occur even when the vehicle is stationary. If the warnings are ignored and the vehicle is driven in this condition at speeds higher than approximately 6 mph, an additional continuous audible door-ajar ringing sound will occur, and the door-ajar warning will remain illuminated with an additional flashing red graphic.

Certain plastic holders inside the release actuator within the passenger-side power sliding door remote controller assembly may have been manufactured out of specification by the supplier. As a result, binding between the drum and holder can cause the latch to intermittently stick in the open position. If the latch becomes stuck in the open position, the passenger-side power sliding door will not latch and the door can open while driving, increasing the risk of injury. Kia
Will Replace the Passenger-Side Power Sliding Door Release Actuatorโs Drum And Holder At No Cost To You. Kia
will replace the passenger-side power sliding door release actuator’s drum and holder as a pair in the remote controller assembly with new ones so that the power sliding door will latch properly. The estimated time required to perform the repair will be approximately two (2) to three (3) hours. What Should You Do? โข In the interest of the safety of your passengers, as well as your own safety, please immediately contact your Kia
dealer to arrange for the recall repair to be conducted. โข WARNING: If the power sliding door does not latch properly, four (4) audible alert chimes and illumination of the door-ajar warning on the instrument cluster will occur even when the vehicle is stationary. If the warnings are ignored and you drive the vehicle in this condition at speeds higher than approximately 6 mph, an additional continuous audible door-ajar ringing sound will occur, and the door-ajar warning will remain illuminated with an additional flashing red graphic. โข If you encounter this condition, please stop your vehicle immediately and press the POWER DOOR OFF button so it is illuminated (see Page 4-40 of your Ownerโs Manual). Once POWER DOOR OFF button is illuminated, close the passenger-side sliding door manually.
