Kia
Motors America (Kia
) is recalling certain 2020 Stinger vehicles equipped with a 2.0L Turbo-GDI engine. A component within the Rack Mounted Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) Assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, possibly resulting in the steering locking or becoming difficult while driving.
Remedy
Kia
will notify owners, and dealers will replace the MDPS Assembly, free of charge. The recall began August 28, 2020. Owners may contact Kia
customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia

This bulletin provides the procedure to replace the rack mounted motor driven power steering (R-MDPS) / steering gear box assembly on some 2020MY Stinger (CK) vehicles equipped with THETA II 2.0L T-GDI (RWD/AWD) vehicles produced from October 7, 2019 through December 12, 2019. The Rack & Ball/Nut Assembly (RBNA), an internal component of the R-MDPS
Assembly, may have been manufactured incorrectly. Over time, the incorrectly manufactured RBNA component may fracture, causing the steering to lock or become difficult to steer while driving. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.
R-MDPS / Steering Gear Box Assembly
NOTICE
There is no charge to the vehicle owner for this repair. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected vehicle until it has been repaired pursuant to the procedures set forth in this bulletin.

Replacement Procedure:
1. Save radio presets and disconnect battery negative (-) terminal.
2. Replace the R-MDPS by referring to the “Steering System → Electrical Power Steering → Steering Gear Box → Repair procedures” chapter in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.
3. Install the R-MDPS in the reverse order of removal.
4. Refer to the “Steering System → Electrical Power Steering → Repair procedures” chapter in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.
IMPORTANT
Ensure to check the alignment and register “ASP Calibration EPS Type Recognition” instruction outlined on KGIS.
5. Reconnect battery negative (-) terminal and restore radio presets.
6. Confirm normal operation and no instrument cluster indicators illuminate.

Motors has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 2020 MY Kia
Stinger vehicles. The defect can make it difficult to steer the vehicle. Difficulty and/or loss of steering increases the risk of a crash. Our records indicate that you own or lease one of the potentially affected vehicles.
What Is The Problem?
The Rack & Ball/Nut Assembly (RBNA), an internal component of the Rack Mounted Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) Assembly, may have been manufactured incorrectly. Over time, the incorrectly manufactured RBNA component may fracture, causing the steering to lock or become difficult to steer while driving thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Will Replace the MDPS Assembly Free Of Charge At No Cost For Parts Or Labor To You.
Kia
has advised its authorized Kia
dealers to replace the Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) Assembly with a new one. The work will be performed at Kia
’s expense at no cost to you. The estimated time required to repair your vehicle is approximately 2-3 hours. However, your vehicle may be needed longer; therefore, we recommend scheduling a service appointment to minimize any inconvenience.
What Should You Do?
- If you hear any noise when turning the steering wheel or if you experience any difficulty turning the steering wheel, please immediately stop driving your vehicle and contact Kia
Roadside Assistance at 800-333-4Kia(4542) to request that your vehicle be towed to the nearest Kia
dealer for inspection and repair as soon as possible.

| July 10—July 15, 2020 | KMC, RBNA supplier1 and Hyundai Mobis confirm noise and difficulty steering issue caused by the insertion of an insufficient number of balls into the RBNA. RBNA supplier identifies all affected RBNA’s were manufactured on 3/1/2019. The last day the problematic RBNA’s were supplied by the RBNA supplier to Hyundai Mobis was 9/20/19. KMC’s review of vehicle production records confirms 104 vehicles produced from 10/7/2019 thru 12/12/2019 were equipped with the affected RBNA.
