POWER TAILGATE SYSTEM RE-INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE

 

This article provides the procedure to re-initialize the Power Tailgate System (PTGS) on all Sorento (XMa) vehicles (if equipped).

 

Re-initialization Procedure:

1. Open the tailgate.
2. For maximum customer satisfaction, measure and record the tailgate opening height.
3. Press and hold both the inner and outer tailgate buttons for 5 seconds or until the vehicle beeps one time.
4. Manually close the tailgate.
5. Press the outer tailgate button and wait for the tailgate to open fully. While the tailgate opens, the vehicle will beep multiple times and the rear combination lamps will blink twice to confirm a successful re-initilization (Fig .1).
6. Cycle the PTGS a total of 4 times to verify proper operation.
7. Open the tailgate and manually set the height to the value recorded in step 2. Press the inner tailgate button for three seconds in order to re-program the opening height (Fig. 2).

 

*NOTICE

Re-initialization of the PTGS should be completed after any adjustment has been made to the tailgate (bracket adjustments, spindle drive replacements, striker adjustments, body hinge adjustments or collision repair) to ensure proper function of the system.
