Q5. Can you describe the recall campaign and fix?
A5. Kia dealers will be instructed to replace the right front lower control arm with a new one.
Q6. How will owners of the affected vehicles be notified?
A6. All owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail with instructions to contact their authorized Kia dealer to have the recall campaign performed beginning on September 27, 2023.
Q7. What should vehicle owners do when they receive the notification?
A7. Upon receipt of the letter, owners are to contact their authorized Kia dealer to arrange to have the recall campaign performed on their vehicle free of charge at no cost to them. Customers are also instructed NOT to drive their vehicles, and have their vehicles towed to an authorized Kia
Dealer to have this recall performed.
Q8. Where were these vehicles produced?
A8. The affected vehicles were produced at a Kia assembly plant in Mexico.
Q9. Will this cost vehicle owners any money?
A9. No. Kia will perform the recall repair free of charge at no cost to the customer.
Q10. Are there any restrictions on an owner’s eligibility?
A10. No.
Q11. If a customer has an immediate question, where can they get further information?

FRONT RIGHT LOWER CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT (SC283)
This bulletin provides information to replace the right front lower control arm (LCA) on certain 2023MY Forte (BDm) vehicles produced from April 12, 2023 through June 7, 2023. One of the joint connection points of the right (passenger side) front LCA to the vehicle’s crossmember in the subject vehicles may have been improperly welded. Over time, an improperly welded joint can fatigue and break causing partial separation of the LCA from the vehicle’s crossmember. If partial separation occurs, the vehicle’s front toe angle may change impacting the vehicle’s steering, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. Follow the procedure outlined in this publication to replace the right front LCA with a new part on the applicable vehicle. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.
Repair Procedure:
1. Replace the right lower control arm with the new part by referring to “Suspension System → Front Suspension System → Front Lower Arm → Repair procedures” in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.
Note: Required SST 09568 1S100 listed on KGIS was ‘Superseded’ by 09568 34000
2. After replacement is completed, refer to “Suspension System → Front Suspension System → Front Alignment → Repair procedures” in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS to adjust the toe angle.
CAUTION
Keep SST tied to the car because there is a risk of injury by dropping the SST during removal of the front lower control arm.
NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire.
When using SST, be sure not to damage the dust cover of lower arm ball joint.
The peripheral parts may be damaged when removing the lower arm ball joint with a general tool such as lever, so be sure to use SST.

Kia America, Inc. Corporate Headquarters 111 Peters Canyon Road, Irvine, CA 92606-1790 USA IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NHTSA Recall Number: 23V649 This notice applies to your vehicle: Insert VIN September 27, 2023 Dear Kia Forte Vehicle Owner: Kia has identified a defect in your vehicle which relates to motor vehicle safety. This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Kia America, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2023 MY Forte vehicles. The defect can result in the right front lower control arm partially separating from the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. Our records indicate that you own or lease one of the affected vehicles. What Is The Problem? One of the joint connection points of the right front lower control arm (LCA) to your vehicle’s crossmember may have been improperly welded due to a manufacturing error.
