The recall population was determined by a review of vehicle production and supplier records. The vehicles subject to this recall were not produced in VIN order. Production Dates : AUG 01, 2018 – JUN 12, 2019 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Noncompliance : Due to an error in the manufacturing process at the supplier, the rearview camera may be susceptible to water intrusion. If water enters the rear of the camera, the camera’s image may become blank while in reverse. As a result, the subject vehicles fail to comply with the rear visibility requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 111. FMVSS 1 : 111 – Rear visibility FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : A rearview camera that does not display what is behind the vehicle increases the risk of crash. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-639 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : All owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail with instructions to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealer. Kia dealers will inspect the rearview camera, and if necessary, replace it with a new one. If no issue is found following inspection, dealers will apply additional water proofing to the camera wiring harness. Kia will reimburse owners for repair expenses already incurred pursuant to Kia’s General Reimbursement Plan filed May 10, 2022. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy component prevents the ability for water to enter the rearview camera. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Additional waterproofing to the rearview camera wiring harness was applied to the 2019MY Sorento vehicles produced beginning on June 13, 2019. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : The dealer notification is scheduled to begin and end on November 9, 2023 and the owner notification is scheduled to begin and end on November 13, 2023.
