Production Dates : SEP 07, 2021 – JUN 13, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Noncompliance : The rearview camera assembly may break in the area of its mounting clips, allowing the camera to fall out of position and improperly display the area behind the vehicle while in reverse. As a result, the subject vehicles fail to comply with the rear visibility requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111. FMVSS 1 : 111 – Rear visibility FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : A rearview camera that does not display what is behind the vehicle increases the risk of crash. Description of the Cause : The rearview camera housing may break due to excessive stiffness of the mounting clip material. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : None. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : All owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail with instructions to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealer. Kia dealers will inspect the rearview camera assembly and, if necessary, replace the camera housing with an improved one. Kia will reimburse owners for repair expenses already incurred pursuant to Kia’s General Reimbursement Plan filed May 10, 2022. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The rearview camera housing has been strengthened by adding stiffening ribs in the area of its housing mounting clips. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The strengthened rearview camera housing was applied to vehicle production on 8/1/2023 for the Sorento vehicles, on 6/23/2023 for the Sorento Hybrid vehicles, and on 6/14/2023 for Sorento Plug-in Hybrid vehicles.
