SUBJECT:
OIL PAN & OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT FOR 2.0L NU MPI ENGINE (SC210)
This bulletin provides the procedure to replace the engine oil pan on some 2017-2018MY Forte (YDm) vehicles produced from June 5, 2017 through July 24, 2017 with a new one that includes magnets. In addition, the oil filter in these vehicles is also to be replaced. The subject vehicles may exhibit abnormal engine noise, an oil pressure warning lamp and/or MIL on due to the conditions described below. The engine oil pump contains a variable relief plunger that controls oil pressure. Over time, normally occurring foreign particles that are not captured by the oil filter can become stuck in the plunger due to a sharp edge on the plunger, resulting in reduced oil pressure and engine lubrication. If the vehicle is continually operated with this condition, the engine can be damaged and loss of motive power may occur, increasing the risk of a crash. Follow the procedure outlined in this publication to install the new engine oil pan and replace the oil filter with the parts listed in this bulletin. The new engine oil pan includes two (2) magnets to capture any foreign particles in the oil pan to prevent them from becoming stuck on the oil pump plunger. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL
(Follow-Up Notice)
(NHTSA Recall Number: 21V260)
This notice applies to your vehicle: (Insert VIN)
August 16, 2021
THE REMEDY PART IS NOW AVAILABLLE.
Dear Kia Forte Owner:
Kia has identified a defect in your vehicle which relates to motor vehicle safety
This notice is a follow-up letter sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Kia America has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2017-2018 MY Kia Forte vehicles. The defect can cause an engine stall, which increases the risk of a crash. Our records indicate that you own or lease one of the potentially affected vehicles. The remedy part is now available to be installed in your vehicle.
What Is The Problem?
The engine oil pump contains a variable relief plunger that controls oil pressure. Over time, normally occurring foreign particles that are not captured by the oil filter can become stuck in the plunger resulting in reduced oil pressure and engine lubrication. If this condition occurs, abnormal engine noise and illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and/or oil pressure warning lamp can occur. If the vehicle is continually operated with this condition, the engine can be damaged and an engine stall may occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
Kia Will Replace the Engine Oil Pan With A New One At No Cost To You.
Kia will replace the engine oil pan with a new one containing two magnets to capture any foreign particles in the oil pan. This work will be performed at Kia’s expense at no cost to you. The actual time required to perform this repair will be 2 to 3 hours. However, your vehicle may be needed longer. Please contact your Authorized Kia dealer for an exact estimate of how long they may need your vehicle for this repair.
What Should You Do In The Interim?
• If you experience abnormal engine noise or illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and/or oil pressure warning lamp , immediately TURN OFF your engine, and do not drive your vehicle. Instead, please contact Kia Roadside Assistance at 1-800-333-4542 to request to have your vehicle towed to the nearest authorized Kia dealership.
• To find your nearest dealer, visit www.kia.com and click the “Find Dealer” button in the upper right corner (“Dealers” on a mobile device). You can also use the QR code below with your mobile device to access this information (see the bottom of this letter for more information about QR code use):

FOLLOW-UP NOTICE
August 12, 2021
THIS IS A FOLLOW-UP NOTICE TO ADVISE THAT THE REMEDY PART IS NOW AVAILABLE.
Kia America, Inc., pursuant to the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, is conducting a Safety Recall Campaign on certain 2017-2018 MY Kia Forte vehicles equipped with the 2.0-Liter MPI engine, manufactured from June 5, 2017 through July 24, 2017 to replace the Engine Oil Pan with a new one containing two magnets to capture any foreign particles in the oil pan.
The engine oil pump contains a variable relief plunger that controls oil pressure. Over time, normally occurring foreign particles that are not captured by the oil filter can become stuck in the plunger due to a sharp edge on the plunger resulting in reduced oil pressure and engine lubrication.
PARTS INFORMATION: Part supply will be limited due to the scope of the campaign. A valid VIN will be required for order entry.
The Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that provides Vehicle Repair Procedures, Affected VIN Production Range, and Warranty Claim Information will be posted on the Kia Global Information System (KGIS) at www.kiatechinfo.com in the week of August 12, 2021.
Enclosed you will find a copy of the follow-up owner notification letter and a Guide for recall questions, both of which describe the issue. Note that any vehicle owners who have already paid for related repairs can submit a request for reimbursement online via the Owner’s section of www.kia.com. Kia will mail follow-up notices to the affected vehicle owners on August 16, 2021 advising them that the remedy part is now available and for them to contact their Kia dealer to have the recall repair completed.
What Should You Do?
Please make certain the appropriate personnel in your dealership are familiar with the details of this recall campaign to ensure proper responses to customer inquiries and requests to have the campaign performed on their vehicles.
NHTSA ADVISORY: It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle covered by this notification under a sale or lease until the defect is remedied.
