TRAILER BRAKE LIGHTS FLOOR HARNESS REWIRE (SC194) |
NOTICE
This bulletin has been revised to include additional information. New/revised sections of this bulletin are indicated by a black bar in the margin area.
This bulletin provides the procedure to rewire the floor wiring harness on 2020MY Telluride (ON) vehicles equipped with Smart Cruise Control (SCC) produced from January 9, 2019 through July 21, 2020. One of SCC’s functions is to independently apply the brakes to decelerate the vehicle when the system senses a vehicle in front of it within the set distance. However, when a trailer SUBJECT:is connected to the subject vehicles, the trailer brake lights do not illuminate when the SCC independently brakes to decelerate the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment.”
Dealers are to rewire the Floor Harness on the affected vehicles as outlined in this bulletin whether they currently have the tow hitch PIO installed or not as this could also be installed by customers or third parties.
Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.
NOTICE
There is no charge to the vehicle owner for this repair. Under applicable law, you may not sell or otherwise deliver any affected vehicle until it has been repaired pursuant to the procedures set forth in this bulletin.
NOTICE
To assure complete customer satisfaction, always remember to refer to WebDCS Warranty Coverage (validation) Inquiry Screen (Service → Warranty Coverage → Warranty Coverage Inquiry) for a list of any additional campaigns that may need to be performed on the vehicle before returning it to the customer.
Repair Procedure:
1. Record radio presets.
2. Disconnect the battery negative (-) cable.
3. Remove the cowl side trim (A) by referring to the “Body (Interior and Exterior) → Interior Trim → Cowl Side Trim → Repair procedures” chapter in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.
NOTICE
Replace any damaged clips during removal.
Remove the two (2) supplied jumper wires (orange and blue) from the kit and connect to each other prior to installing to vehicle.
4. Locate the ICU-C connector (B) behind the fuse cover. Disconnect the ICU-C connector (B) by releasing the black locking tab (C).
IMPORTANT
Remove the two (2) supplied jumper wires (orange and blue) from the kit and connect to each other prior to installing.
5. Locate the white wire with orange tracer (Pin 10 of the ICU-C) connector (B) and use the provided joint connector (D). Install the provided joint connector (D) over the white wire with orange tracer. Next, insert the supplied wire 3/4” into the open cavity on the joint connector.
6. Using a pair of pliers, clamp the metal section of the joint connector and snap and close the joint connector, ensure that both of the wires are secure. Test both wires using pull, push, and pull test to ensure the wires are properly secured.
7. Tape the new wires to the existing wire harness, providing enough slack to not put tension on the joint connector which may cause it to come loose.
8a. Locate the EF11 connector (E) in the upper right corner of the driver side cowl, multi-connection box.
8b. Remove the connector by unlocking the black tab lever (F).
9. Locate the blue wire (G) (circuit Pin 7) of the EF11 connector and cut the wire about 4”- 5”inches from the back of the connector.
10. Locate the blue (Pin 7 of EF11) connector (E) and use the provided joint connector (D). Install the provided joint connector (D) over the blue wire. Next, insert the supplied wire 3/4” into the open cavity on the joint connector.
- Using a pair of pliers, clamp the metal section of the joint connector and snap the joint connector closed.
- Ensure that both of the wires are secure. Test both wires using pull, push, and pull test to ensure the wires are properly secured.
11. Tape the new wires to the existing wire harness, providing enough slack as to not put tension on the joint connector or come loose.
Note: Reattach the locking tab to the connector.
12. Reconnect the EF11 connector (E) to the drive side multi-connection panel. Ensure the locking tab (F) is engaged.
13. Route the new wire that runs from the ICU-C connector to the EF11 connector and tape the new wires to the existing wire harness, providing enough slack as to not put tension on the joint connector or come loose.
14. Reinstall all trim panels according to KGIS instructions in reverse order of removal.
15. Reconnect battery negative (-) terminal.
16. Restore radio presets recorded in step 1.

SC194
September 2, 2020
Attention: All Kia Parts & Service Managers
Kia Motors America, Inc., pursuant to the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, is conducting a Safety Recall Campaign to install an additional wire harness to the main fuse box on all 2020 MY Kia Telluride vehicles equipped with Smart Cruise Control (SCC) manufactured from January 9, 2019 through July 21, 2020.
One of SCC’s functions is to independently apply the brakes to decelerate the vehicle when the system senses a vehicle in front of it within the set distance. However, when a trailer is connected to the subject vehicles, the trailer brake lights do not illuminate when the SCC independently brakes to decelerate the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment.” The vehicle’s brake lights are not affected by this condition.
PARTS INFORMATION – KMA will auto ship WIRING KITs for dealer stock units. For additional supply, dealers can order a limited quantity (net of warranty claims).
The Technical Service Bulletin that provides vehicle inspection and repair procedures, affected VIN production range, and warranty claim information will be posted on the Kia Global Information System (KGIS) at www.kiatechinfo.com on September 3, 2020.
Enclosed you will find a draft copy of the owner notification letter and a Q&A Guide for recall questions, both of which describe the issue. A list of Kia Telluride vehicle owners affected by this recall can be accessed on WEBDCS. Log onto the site, select the Campaigns Tab, click on Open Campaign Report in the left side menu, and select SC194 to generate the list.

SC194
September 2, 2020
Attention: All Dealer Principals
Kia Motors America, Inc., pursuant to the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, is conducting a
Safety Recall Campaign to install an additional wire harness to the main fuse box on all 2020 MY Kia
Telluride vehicles equipped with Smart Cruise Control (SCC) manufactured from January 9, 2019 through
July 21, 2020.
One of SCC’s functions is to independently apply the brakes to decelerate the vehicle when the system
senses a vehicle in front of it within the set distance. However, when a trailer is connected to the subject
vehicles, the trailer brake lights do not illuminate when the SCC independently brakes to decelerate the
vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standard (FMVSS) 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment.” The vehicle’s brake lights
are not affected by this condition.
The Technical Service Bulletin that provides vehicle inspection and repair procedures, affected VIN
production range, and warranty claim information will be posted on the Kia Global Information System
(KGIS) at www.kiatechinfo.com on September 3, 2020.
Your Service Manager was sent a draft copy of the owner notification letter and a Q&A guide for recall
questions both of which describe the issue and information on how to access the list of affected 2020 MY
Kia Telluride vehicles. Kia will notify the affected vehicle owners on September 10, 2020.
NHTSA ADVISORY: It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle
covered by this notification under a sale or lease until the defect is remedied.
