SERVICE ACTION: GAP BETWEEN FORTE SPOILER AND TRUNK LID (SA154)
Some 2014MY Forte vehicles produced from April 24, 2013 to August 27, 2013 and equipped with a Kia
accessory spoiler, may exhibit a gap forming between the adhesive tape on the spoiler and the trunk lid. To inspect for and to correct this condition, follow the procedure outlined in this TSB. If a gap has formed, remove the original spoiler and follow the instruction sheet enclosed with the new accessory part to install the replacement spoiler. Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected vehicles, including dealer stock. Before conducting the procedure, verify the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE:
- Inspect leading edge of the spoiler for a possible gap forming between the spoiler and the trunk lid.
- If any gaps are present, use a 1mm plastic feeler gauge to measure the separation.
- If the gap is equal to or greater than 1.0 mm, remove and replace with a new spoiler by carefully following the instructions included with the new accessory part.
- If the gap is less than 1.0 mm, proceed to Step 3.
CAUTION
Do not use metal feeler gauges or paint damage may occur.
- Open the trunk and remove the insulation trim panel.
- Inspect the retaining clips to make sure the hooks are properly engaged on the underside of the trunk.
- If the hooks are not properly engaged, use a flat-head screwdriver to gently spread the clip open, as shown.
NOTICE
If necessary, have an assistant apply downward pressure to the spoiler while spreading the clip open.
CAUTION
Be careful not to damage the clips.
- Once the retaining clips have been inspected, no further steps are required.
- Re-install the trunk insulation trim panel.
